I'm off to the airport in a couple of hours, off to New Zealand for two weeks. I probably won't be online at all till I come back.

It was good :3 I'd do a big spoilerific post but OH GOD I AM SO ILL. Like, the cough-of-a-cancer-patient sort of ow. It was just a cold till today and it's gotten into my throat and it feels like I'm literally causing damage to my lungs and respiratory system every time I cough.

And I went to work tonight so I've probably infected every Transformers fan in Forest Hill :3

I really need MGS icons... I want to make my own but I find most of the pictures I can get my hands on are really not conducive to good icons. I'm downloading a collection of MGS cutscenes, though, they might help if I can get some good screencaps. I might be making an MGS2 music video, too...

You know what sucks? When you get that little sore, scratchy feeling up the back of your throat and you start drinking tea and eating vitamin C and all this but you KNOW you're gonna spend the next few days feeling horrible and sick. I've got that feeling now.

I'm going to New Zealand in a couple weeks.

Wow, I expected that to take longer. I sat down tonight thinking I'd play for a little while and then it's like HEY IT'S THE END OF THE GAME. I kinda already spent 7 hours more on mgs1 than I did to complete mgs2 >>;;

lolol assignments

Three assignments due by Friday. Mostly under control, thankfully. For my Narratives assignment I'm making a non-linear interactive story and because I hate Flash, I'm doing it as a series of web pages. I feel artsy for no discernable reason.

Also watching the fallout from E3 from a distance. Man, Kojima's really trolling hard.

Dad came home from work early to take me to my driving test. We washed the car, vacuumed it out, got the L-plates ready, went for a practice drive... then fifteen minutes before my test we realised one of the brake lights was out. Dad tried to fix it, all the spare bulbs were busted, panic stations, quickly cleared out my sister's car (which I've never driven) and took it up instead.

Got there JUST in time, I was pretty much in hysterics but I got out and did the test.

Then I failed because of head-checks.

Upside is, rather than the two-month wait for my next appointment we managed to snag a cancellation for next Friday. One week till I can try again!


[ETA]: Anyone going to the zombie shuffle in the city tomorrow? I've got to leave pretty promptly for work but I'm heading in for a bit. Need to find some old clothes to mess up...

I'm getting a car! A cute little bright red Toyota Corolla, older than I am but in damn good nick. It belongs to an old lady who's selling it off because she can't drive any more, getting a roadworthy this week then I'll have a CAR! I wish I'd taken a photo when we went around today, it had such a layer of dust on it because it hadn't been driven for months xD;; but it runs nicely.

Two weeks till I go for my P-plates!

Ah I'm bored and I should get some sleep, it's been a big day. And tomorrow's the last day of the comedy festival, I want to go out... except I'm on antibiotics for a throat infection so maybe not so much of the drinking... oh well.

Mum and dad are buying me a cheap second-hand car because my sisters both ended up sort-of-inheriting cars anyway and there's no point me having a licence and nothing to drive.

I really don't know much about cars. Dad knows maybe a little more than me, mum much less.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm grateful and yay woo car, but this is a singularly unpleasant process.

Handed in AI assignment from hell, holidays begun, stress relief tiem, hurgh blaaaargh

Linux really hates me =/ I can't get through a lab session at uni without crashing at least one computer. I got two this friday. I'm meant to be coding a game with decent AI and I don't even know how to compile on this OS. And I'm having difficulty getting a simple C++ compiler on this computer, so I can't even mock up most of it under Windows. OpenGL is just a mystery to me. It would have been nice if we'd had some sort of contact with any of this before they said "Right, start coding".

*sigh* I've ended up procrastinating most of the day. I've gotta go to work pretty soon anyway...

I went over to Mark's place the other night (12-month anniversary .__.; I feel old) and we were gonna have dinner, watch some tv, it'd be nice. Got off the train about 9pm, walked towards his place and got within a block of it before...

No one was allowed through the street, they declared the whole place a crime scene. The cop (who was REALLY nice, he got yelled at by his superior because he was trying to get someone to let us through so we could go home) told us it'd be a while so we went up the road to get some pasta for dinner, came back... didn't get through till about 11:20. About twenty people were hanging around waiting, just trying to get home... probably more like forty turned up throughout the night. Turns out someone had been stabbed and killed about three houses up from Mark's place.

I can't tell my parents this story. They'd never let me back there xD; Although I gather it was kind of a domestic thing, so I don't feel unsafe because 1. I don't know anyone who wants to kill me do I? and 2. if I'm wandering around there I've always got Mark with me.

In semi-related news, I did a presentation on Metal Gear Solid for my Creating Narrative in Multimedia class :3 it was awesome fun because 1. I haven't done analysis stuff like that since year 12 lit class ♥ and 2. I GOT TO TALK ABOUT FANDOM AND GOT MARKS FOR IT.
I just wish the background music had worked... I had some of the music set up to play with my slideshow, but something messed up. ;__;

COMING SOON: analytical essay on Metal Gear Solid, as soon as I've gotten it marked.

My dad reads out bits from the Age about the current economic crisis being oddly reminiscent of the fall of Communism in the 90s. He says communism was seen to fail then, and capitalism is being seen to fail now. He tells me how interesting it is to watch all of this happening. He tells me his superannuation has taken a beating because it's tied up in something-or-other and I wonder what has actually come through this without taking a beating.

My dad tells me I'm living through interesting times.

I'd be so much happier if these interesting times didn't directly threaten my chances of future employment. I'm in my last year of uni. I want a full-time job within twelve months. I'm in what he would think is not a necessary industry (You'll always need teachers and nurses, he's always said) and I honestly have no idea what I'm going to do. I can't even support myself on the part-time job I have.
